This guideline explains how Hopscotch uniform is issued, reviewed and managed across the nursery teams.
Hopscotch uniform has been chosen to be comfortable, practical and suitable for regular nursery use. The uniform brand is a Fair Wear member and PETA-approved, and the T-shirts are made from 100% organic cotton.
Our aim is to make sure team members have the uniform they need for work, with a clear process for reviewing, replacing, returning and reusing items where appropriate.
Uniform will be issued to permanent members of staff working in nursery settings, excluding management.
The standard allocation will be based on the employee’s contracted working pattern:
This allocation is intended to ensure employees have enough uniform for their working week, while supporting responsible use of uniform stock.
Management uniform arrangements will be managed separately where required.
Uniform allocations may be reviewed if an employee’s working pattern changes, or where items show sufficient wear and tear.
Employees are expected to take care of their uniform and follow any washing or care guidance provided, to help extend the life of each item.
Head Office will carry out an annual uniform review, with support from Nursery Managers where needed.
The review will consider:
- Whether uniform items are still in good condition
- Whether any employees need replacement or refresher items
- Whether the current uniform allocation is sufficient
- Whether the quality, comfort and durability of the uniform remains suitable
- Whether any items can be reused, repurposed or recycled
If an item is damaged or showing significant wear and tear, the Nursery Manager should assess whether it can continue to be used safely and professionally.
When an employee leaves Hopscotch, all Hopscotch uniform must be returned to the Nursery Manager.
Returned uniform will be:
Washed
Checked for condition
Stored as bank stock where suitable
Offered as a first option for new employees, where the size is right and the item is in good enough condition
Uniform should only be reused where it remains clean, presentable and suitable for work.
Bank staff should not take Hopscotch uniform home or wear it outside of work.
Bank staff must:
Arrive at work in their own clothes
Change into a Hopscotch T-shirt at the nursery
Return the T-shirt before going home
Returned bank uniform should then be washed and stored appropriately at the nursery.
Uniform that is damaged, heavily worn or no longer suitable for staff use should not be thrown away automatically.
The Nursery Manager should first consider whether the item can be reused for activities within the nursery, such as messy play, painting, gardening or other practical tasks where branded appearance is less important.
If the item cannot be reused within the nursery, it should be returned to Head Office, where it will be reviewed and sent to the most appropriate reuse or recycling route.
This may include:
- Scrap Space
- A fabric charity bin
- Another suitable textile recycling or reuse option
Staff badges should be requested using the relevant Microsoft Form.
When a staff member leaves Hopscotch, their badge should be returned to the Nursery Manager. The Nursery Manager should then return the badge to Head Office. Head Office will keep a collection of returned badges so they can be recycled and reused appropriately.
