Working at Hopscotch

History of Hopscotch

Hopscotch was founded in 1988 by local teacher Barbara Ford. The aim was to provide first-class childcare at family friendly prices. Since then we have been supporting local families in Brighton, Hove and the Southeast. The first Hopscotch nursery was on Ditchling Road and had a capacity of just 12 places.
Hopscotch now has several nursery settings across the Southeast, and we can cater for over 500 children. Our largest nursery has 98 places.
We pride ourselves on our high-quality childcare provision and we are always aiming to deliver outstanding childcare to our families every single day.
As a valued and respected member of staff at Hopscotch, we trust that you will help us deliver this goal and we will do our best to support you and your colleagues every step of the way.

Hopscotch Mission Statement

Our day-to-day mission is to provide first-class childcare at family friendly prices. We are customer service driven and motivated to ensure every child is nurtured attentively and according to their needs. We value learning environments which are calm, structured and family-orientated and always with the aim of delivering excellence in childcare. This should be delivered by every Hopscotch team member, whether office or nursery based. Our aim is to unlock our children’s potential and help them become confident, accomplished and happy individuals. Our holistic approach to childcare nurtures children's academic, social and emotional needs to ensure they develop the skills which will set them on the right course, both at school and in later life.

Hopscotch Values

  • Respect, professionalism and politeness at work is of paramount importance and should always be something we aim for, even during challenging or stressful moments
  • All colleagues, whether apprentices, managers or office staff, should be treated with the same equal respect as we would expect to be treated ourselves
  • Team members should be empowered through their work and by being given the right opportunities to succeed - trust and accountability are key parts of this
  • Training and development pathways should be a focus for all staff to help nurture and develop individuals but also to achieve the same for Hopscotch. This applies across the board.
  • Open door policy – staff, and line managers in particular, should be approachable and supportive, whatever the issue we are here to help - concerns, questions, or suggestions can be raised without worry or judgement
  • We care for the environment, and we do what we can to limit the impacts of our business on our local environments and beyond

Hopscotch Vision

Our vision is to grow and develop our nursery operations in the next five years whilst ensuring we continue to always provide first-class childcare to all families, as we have done for 35 years. All opportunities for growth should be ethical, sustainable, and achievable without impacting on our existing high standard of childcare services.
